RMD Kwikform is a business built on our people. They are what ensures RMD Kwikform surpasses customers’ expectations time after time.

RMD Kwikform has been dedicated to bringing structures to life for over 70 years. However, our story began almost two decades prior to 1930 when Sir Robert McCallum Douglas (OBE) formed The Douglas Group. It wasn’t until 1947 that, because of a timber shortage, the Douglas Group designed and manufactured their first steel panel formwork system. In 1948, the Group incorporated its formwork division and became Rapid Metal Developments Ltd (known as RMD).

Since then, RMD began to expand outside of the United Kingdom, firstly into Ireland in 1952, Australia in 1953, and New Zealand in 1967. During this time, our legacy engineers designed some of our most renowned products, including Rapid Ply and Rapid Bar Tie. Shortly after, our most recognized product range was launched – the Superslim Soldier.

In 1978, we opened our first office in the Middle East in the United Arab Emirates. In the years to come, the business expanded into Chile, Argentina, the Philippines, and Bahrain; and our product catalog grew to include our shoring range, R700, and Maxima panels.

In 1995, RMD won big contracts on the Ma Wan Viaduct in Hong Kong. To provide efficient and safe shoring solutions for this mega bridge project, RMD developed Megashor, our heavy-duty shoring range, that continues to be used in all manner of projects around the world.

Then in 1999, RMD merged with GKN Kwikform, a UK-based scaffolding company, and rebranded to become RMD Kwikform. Since then, the brand and business have grown exponentially into further countries, including Oman, South Africa, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, India, and Singapore.

In 2010, RMD Kwikform proudly accepted the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade.

In the most recent decade, further product developments have been made and new products have been launched. This includes our entry into the groundworks sector in 2016–RMD Kwikform is now the only provider of above and below-ground temporary works solutions worldwide. Alongside our expanding product range, the introduction of 3D visualizations and BIM has evolved our service and capabilities.

RMD Kwikform now services the global construction industry across a multitude of sectors, including rail and road infrastructure, bridges and tunnels, commercial buildings, and mid-to-high-rise developments.
